The Canyons Ski Resort in Park City, Utah was rated one of the most innovative terrain parks in the United States last year. By the looks of things, it appears as though they’ll be able to once again fulfill the same name. Having a giant gong after a jump to stall or “bonk” on, along with real trees to do rail slides on, helped it to gain this name. It is still early in the season and the park is still growing but they have undergone one big change recently. Upper and Lower Respect has yet to be opened with obstacles although the short run of Painted Horse has had a small park for the past few weeks. It started out with a series of boxes; flat, up-down, down flat down, rainbow, and a c-box to a down box. They also had a come from the side down rail along with one jump. That was the park of the past. On January 8th, The Canyons’ Park directors closed the park for construction, and it re-opened on the 9th. I entered the park not knowing what to expect but was greeted by some familiar boxes that were in the same place. At the top and bottom of the park nothing had changed. But in the middle of the park there was a four jump line all with at least 15 foot table tops. After the jumps there were two hips so they could be approached from either side. Upper and Lower Respect will be opened. But until then the park rats will have to be satisfied with Painted Horse. Keep checking for Canyons Park updates.
