If you look at the weather report for Park City this upcoming weekend, all you will see is white fluffy stuff coming down every day and night (as shown above). This is great to see after a few weeks of bluebird skiing. The warm sunny days are nice but nothing is better than fresh powder!! Get set up with some new Demo ski rentals and enjoy the powder even more!

There has been a lack of snow in the Wasatch Mountain range…don’t let it fool you! Skiing is still great! Get out there and rent some new equipment from a Park City Ski Shop. The warmth during the day is allowing for very spring like conditions, which we all know makes for a nice soft ride all day. With the sun beating down, it’s getting warm and it’s the perfect time to take a buddy that has never been out before and teach them. Enjoy these bluebird days while they’re still around because there is snow in the forecast, which is also a very good thing!

Sundance has arrived. Whether you’re excited or not, here are my top five reasons to be positive about the festival:
-World Class movies that you normally might not watch
-Empty ski slopes at The Canyons Mountain Resort, Park City Mountain Resort and Deer Valley
-Hollywood Actors in our small town
-Grammy Award Winning Artists in small venues
-An experience that brings a lot of people together from around the world to this world class ski town
Park City is known for its skiing, but it is all the festivals throughout the year that make this town a very special place to visit. My second place to visit? Probably Beaver Creek Colorado…..but hey, all they have are warm cookies at the end of the day!

The Canyons Ski Resort in Park City, Utah was rated one of the most innovative terrain parks in the United States last year. By the looks of things, it appears as though they’ll be able to once again fulfill the same name. Having a giant gong after a jump to stall or “bonk” on, along with real trees to do rail slides on, helped it to gain this name. It is still early in the season and the park is still growing but they have undergone one big change recently. Upper and Lower Respect has yet to be opened with obstacles although the short run of Painted Horse has had a small park for the past few weeks. It started out with a series of boxes; flat, up-down, down flat down, rainbow, and a c-box to a down box. They also had a come from the side down rail along with one jump. That was the park of the past. On January 8th, The Canyons’ Park directors closed the park for construction, and it re-opened on the 9th. I entered the park not knowing what to expect but was greeted by some familiar boxes that were in the same place. At the top and bottom of the park nothing had changed. But in the middle of the park there was a four jump line all with at least 15 foot table tops. After the jumps there were two hips so they could be approached from either side. Upper and Lower Respect will be opened. But until then the park rats will have to be satisfied with Painted Horse. Keep checking for Canyons Park updates.

It’s official…Park City Resort has opened their LARGE feature terrain park called Kings Crown. I have been watching the progress on the building of this park for quite sometime now. Let me tell you…those are four of the biggest jumps I have seen in a while. They also boast having two jibs on the trail as well so it’s not just for the “Huck and Hope” crew. For those that are looking for the park with all the rails and boxes, you will be most pleased with the Jonesy Terrain park. With four smaller jumps and a whopping ten jibs ranging from boxed to rails, it is a very street skating kind of set up with back to back features. A double chair services the Pick’n Shovel park. This is located at the bottom of the mountain and the chair allows you to make quick laps through the park. With five jumps and five rails and boxes, it’s a great place to dial in the skills for the day before heading up to King’s Crown. Hopefully everyone will be able to take advantage of these freshly maintained parks. I know I will. Make sure to pick up a pair of twin tips at a Park City Ski Shop…they will surely make you have an awesome park experience.

Yesterday morning was an example of why Park City skiing is some of the best skiing in the world. Though the forecast didn’t call for much snow, I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of snow at Deer Valley yesterday morning. I rented a pair of Volkl Mantra’s from an awesome Park City Ski Rental shop. Though not super wide powder skis, they’re certainly good enough for deep pow but can also lay deep trenches on Deer Valley’s world class groomed runs.
I crept over to the Empire Bowl and was greeted with what seemed to be 14 inches of new light powder. If you skied in the right spots, snow was blowing up on your chest! Snow is in the forecast for tomorrow night and I’m excited to switch over to the Rossignol Phantom 80’s for some more new snow!
Book your trips to Park City/Deer Valley/The Canyons today to enjoy the legendary skiing. The Sundance Film Festival is next week and it’s sure to be some of the best skiing this year. No one is on the slopes and it always seems to dump during Sundance.

The question has crossed our minds multiple times. Maybe while standing in line you glance over at the dude outfitted in neon colors standing next to you. Why are his skis twice the width of yours? What are the benefits of a wide ski? Well, if you opt to follow this guy on a deep powder day you’ll quickly learn why. A ski that is wider underfoot will glide on top of soft fluffy snow much better than a ski narrow underfoot. The ideal ski for a powder day is slightly stiffer with an underfoot dimension of at least 80 mm. You’ll charge through snow effortlessly and smoothly even if it’s choppy or heavy. A wider ski also guarantees an increase in face shots! If you’re not sure you want to drop the money for a wide ski just yet, I recommend demo-ing a powder ski like the Volkl Mantra from the best Park City Ski Shop.
